Australia Gold Coast Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Entry Tickets Overview
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary sits on 27 hectares of natural bushland on the southern Gold Coast, less than 10 minutes from Gold Coast Airport and 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise. Founded in 1947 by a local florist who began feeding wild rainbow lorikeets from his front garden, the sanctuary grew from that single tradition into one of Queensland's most visited wildlife attractions. Today it is operated as a not-for-profit and reinvests its revenue directly into animal care and conservation.
The sanctuary is home to an enormous range of native Australian species, including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, wombats, Tasmanian devils, freshwater crocodiles and hundreds of birds. The miniature railway loops through the grounds and is included with general admission. A full schedule of daily wildlife shows covers birds of prey, native wildlife presentations and the lorikeet feeding sessions which take place at 8 am and 4 pm each day.
The wild lorikeet feeding is the event most associated with Currumbin. Hundreds of rainbow lorikeets descend twice daily on the open feeding area just inside the main entrance, landing on arms, heads and shoulders of anyone standing there with a feeding pan. The Astra Lumina experience, a night-time walk through the grounds with large-scale nature projections, runs Wednesday through Saturday evenings and requires a separate ticket.
