This is without a doubt one of the best museum experiences I've ever had in all my years of travel. It's expensive, around €50 for 2 tickets, but I really felt that it was totally worth it. It took us about 90 minutes to make our way through the museum and it was such a wonderful use of time. I've always been really intrigued by Van Gogh but to see his work up close, it was overwhelming. My advice is to pay the extra €3.75 for the audio tour. It's so completely worth the money. Amazingly well done and immersive and just ties everything you're seeing together with interesting information. Lockers are provided free of charge which is a nice touch. It had been raining the morning we went and it was nice to be able to leave our coats and bags in a locker and be comfortable walking around. There are bathrooms in two locations that I seen and they were clean. The gift shop was also really reasonably priced, which was a surprise because they can be quite expensive!

One of the best museums that I have ever visited. The exhibition has many floors and rooms, not only Van Gogh's paintings, but many other famous painters as well. When you get inside, there is a huge vertical video wall that displays Van Gogh's famous paintings. Breathtaking! Also lockers are available for free and strict security upon entrance.

By far my favorite museum 💛 The entire visit felt very unique and immersive. The audio guide is well structured, informative, and self-paced, which made the experience even more meaningful. I absolutely loved the temporary exhibition focused on color, it added such a vibrant and insightful layer to the experience. Make sure to book your tickets in advance, it gets very busy and crowded. I went early in the morning, which gave me plenty of time to enjoy the paintings at my own pace without feeling overwhelmed. I truly loved this museum and would absolutely say it’s a must-visit in Amsterdam.

Van Gogh Museum was the main reason I came to the Netherlands. I wanted to experience not only the paintings but the narrative, the scenography, and the way the museum would guide visitors through the life of Vincent van Gogh. In that sense, the exhibition succeeds. The chronological flow is clear, the storytelling is strong, and the audio guide, which costs around 3.5 to 4 euros, is absolutely worth it. It helped me understand the emotional shifts, the psychological struggles, and the contradictions that shaped his journey. The museum does a very good job of mapping his evolution from early dark works to the vibrant intensity of his later years. However, from an architectural perspective, I expected more. For an artist of this magnitude, the building itself feels modest and somewhat ordinary. The circulation through stairs and galleries is functional but not inspiring. Some finishes and transitions feel basic, almost as if cost efficiency took priority over spatial poetry. The curation inside is powerful, but the architecture does not rise to the same artistic level. Van Gogh’s work is explosive, emotional, and visionary. I could not help but imagine that if he walked through this building today, he might wish for a museum with stronger architectural expression to match the depth of his legacy.

Just a quick note: The Starry Night is not on display here.
