France Paris Musee du quai Branly Jacques Chirac Entry Tickets Overview

The Musee du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac opened in 2006 near the Eiffel Tower on the south bank of the Seine. Designed by Jean Nouvel, the building sits above a garden by Gilles Clement and features a living plant wall on its Rue de l'Universite facade. The museum was commissioned to give the arts and civilisations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas the same institutional standing in France as European art.

The permanent collection covers one million objects of which approximately 3500 are on permanent display on a continuous plateau with mezzanines. Objects from different continents and centuries are placed in dialogue without strict geographic divisions, allowing connections between cultures to emerge rather than separating them into national categories.

2026 is the museum's 20th anniversary with a programme including free celebration weekends, a summer garden festival and major exhibitions. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday 10:30 am to 7 pm with Thursday evenings extending to 10 pm. Closed Mondays except during school holiday periods.
