Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya Entry Tickets

Summer hours (May to September 2026): Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 8 pm; Sunday and public holidays 10 am to 3 pm. The museum is closed every Monday except on public holidays.

The MNAC Romanesque collection is the most important in the world. The museum recovered original fresco cycles from abandoned Pyrenean Romanesque churches over several decades and installed them in custom-built apse reproductions. Walking through them gives a rare encounter with medieval painting on the scale it was originally seen.

Admission is free every Saturday from 3 pm until closing and on the first Sunday of each month all day. September 11, the Diada de Catalunya, is also a free open day. Advance booking is required for first Sundays as they fill quickly.

Yes. The rooftop terrace of the Palau Nacional is free and accessible without a museum ticket. It gives a panoramic view over Barcelona, the Magic Fountain below and the city to the sea.

The Catalan Modernisme collection covers the movement that produced the Sagrada Familia, the Palau de la Musica and La Pedrera in Barcelona between roughly 1880 and 1920. The MNAC holds design objects, furniture, paintings and decorative arts by Gaudi, Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusinol and Isidre Nonell.

The Palau Nacional is at the top of the avenue from Placa Espanya on Montjuic. Take Metro Line 1 or Line 3 to Espanya station and walk up the avenue past the Magic Fountain. The journey from Espanya station takes about 10 minutes on foot or by escalator.

Montjuic holds the Fundacio Joan Miro, the Castell de Montjuic, the Pavello Mies van der Rohe, the Olympic Stadium and the cable car to the castle. The Magic Fountain operates on scheduled evenings.

A thorough visit to the Romanesque collection alone takes 60 to 90 minutes. Adding the Gothic, Modernisme and 20th-century collections extends a complete visit to 3 to 4 hours.
