The Frederick C. Robie House at 5757 South Woodlawn Avenue in Hyde Park is Frank Lloyd Wright's most celebrated residential design. Completed in 1910 for bicycle manufacturer Frederick Robie it synthesises the principles of the Prairie style into a building that fundamentally changed how domestic architecture was conceived. The long horizontal lines, overhanging eaves, open interior plan and the integration of structure and nature created a template for modern residential design.

The house is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is managed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust as a house museum with guided tours running Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Tours are limited to ten guests and must be booked in advance. The 90-minute guided interior tour covers both public and private areas of the house with trained interpreters explaining the design philosophy, the Robie family's life in the house, the subsequent history of the building and the international significance of Wright's achievement.

The Roman brick construction and the art glass windows are particularly celebrated. The art glass uses geometric patterns in amber and clear glass filtering light in ways that change through the day.
