Bronx Zoo Entry Tickets Overview
The Bronx Zoo is not just a zoo. Spread across 265 acres of parkland in the Bronx, it is one of the largest urban wildlife parks on earth and a world leader in animal conservation and research. Since opening in 1899, it has grown into a destination that draws over two million visitors a year and remains one of the defining experiences of a trip to New York City.
The scale of it is the first thing you notice. The zoo is big enough that you could spend a full day and still not see everything. The major exhibits are spread across the grounds, each one a substantial experience in its own right. Congo Gorilla Forest is one of the most acclaimed gorilla habitats in the world, home to a troop of western lowland gorillas in a lush indoor and outdoor rainforest environment. Tiger Mountain gives Amur tigers space to roam across rocky terrain visible from close observation points. JungleWorld is a vast tropical indoor environment housing langurs, fishing cats, and dozens of other Asian species. The Wild Asia Monorail offers an elevated ride over open habitats where Asian elephants, rhinos, and gazelles roam.
The zoo is run by the Wildlife Conservation Society and every visit contributes to conservation programs protecting endangered species across the globe. Advance timed-entry tickets are required and sell out on weekends. Book early.

FAQs
Plan for a full day. The zoo covers 265 acres and the major exhibits require at least four to six hours to see at a comfortable pace. To visit Congo Gorilla Forest, Tiger Mountain, JungleWorld, the Wild Asia Monorail, and the Children's Zoo without rushing, allow six hours. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing and animal exhibits close 30 minutes before the gates shut, so an early arrival gives the most flexibility to cover the full grounds.
The Bronx Zoo is located at 2300 Southern Boulevard, Bronx, New York. From Midtown Manhattan, the BxM11 express bus runs directly to the zoo from Madison Avenue and is the most convenient option. By subway, take the 2 or 5 train to West Farms Square/East Tremont Avenue station, then follow Southern Boulevard south for approximately 10 minutes on foot. From Grand Central Terminal, the Metro-North Harlem Line to Fordham, then a short bus or taxi to Southern Boulevard Gate, is another option.
Yes. Several Star Attractions operate seasonally and are not available year-round. The Children's Zoo, Butterfly Garden, Wild Asia Monorail, and Zoo Shuttle run from spring through fall and are closed during the winter months from November through March. The Congo Gorilla Forest, Tiger Mountain, JungleWorld, and other major exhibits are open throughout the year. Check the current availability calendar at bronxzoo.com before booking to confirm which attractions are running on your visit date.
Yes. Outside food and drinks are permitted at the Bronx Zoo and there are picnic areas throughout the grounds. Alcohol brought from outside is not permitted on zoo grounds.

Most of the Bronx Zoo is accessible by wheelchair. Manual wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis at the main entrance. Electric convenience vehicles are available for rent. Some pathways across the 265-acre grounds involve inclines and uneven terrain, so comfortable and sturdy footwear is recommended for all visitors. The Zoo Shuttle, when operational in season, is a useful option for covering distance across the site.
The Bronx Zoo Admission ticket includes park entry and access to all Star Attractions available on your date of visit.
