USA New York Intrepid Museum Entry Tickets Overview
Berthed on the Hudson River at Pier 86 in Midtown Manhattan, the Intrepid Museum is one of the most unique attractions in New York City. The star of the show is the USS Intrepid, a 900-foot aircraft carrier launched in 1943 that fought in the Pacific during World War II, returned fire in the Cold War and Vietnam, and earned the nickname The Fighting I for surviving damage that would have sunk any lesser ship.
Step aboard and the scale of it takes over immediately. The Hangar Deck is the main indoor exhibit space, housing aircraft and taking visitors through the full history of the ship. Climb to the Flight Deck and you are surrounded by some of the most remarkable aircraft ever built, including supersonic jets and NASA experimental planes. The Space Shuttle Pavilion houses the shuttle Enterprise, the first orbiter ever built, while the submarine Growler offers a rare look inside a Cold War-era nuclear-armed submarine.
There are four decks to explore in total, interactive exhibits for all ages, 4D films, flight simulators, and veterans on board who served on the Intrepid themselves. Plan for at least three to four hours. This is not a museum you rush through.

General admission includes access to the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid across all four decks, the Space Shuttle Pavilion housing the shuttle Enterprise, the submarine Growler, the immersive Kamikaze experience, and all temporary exhibitions running on your date of visit. The British Airways Concorde is not included and requires a separately booked guided tour. Add-on experiences such as 4D films and flight simulators are also available at an additional cost.
Yes. The Intrepid Museum is popular with families and young children. There are hands-on exhibits and interactive displays throughout, plus 4D films and flight simulators well suited to older children and teenagers. Strollers are permitted on the Hangar Deck, Flight Deck, and Mess Deck but cannot be taken into the submarine Growler or Concorde. U.S. military personnel and veterans receive free admission with valid ID.
Yes. Intrepid Marketplace on the Mess Deck and Pier offers freshly prepared pizzas, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and soups, including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, opening daily at 10:00. Aviator Grill on the second floor of the Welcome Center is a second dining option. Outside food and drinks may be brought into the museum and there are seating areas throughout the site.
The Intrepid Museum operates a named, non-transferable ticketing policy. The name on the booking must match a valid photo ID presented at entry. Every member of your party must have their own named ticket. If names do not match, entry will not be permitted. This policy applies to all visitors regardless of how tickets were purchased, so it is important to enter names accurately at the time of booking.
The Intrepid Museum is located at Pier 86 on the Hudson River at West 46th Street and 12th Avenue. The most straightforward route from Midtown is to take the M42 crosstown bus along 42nd Street to 12th Avenue, then walk north to Pier 86, which takes approximately 10 minutes from Times Square. The museum does not have a dedicated parking lot and does not validate parking tickets at any nearby garage.
Most visitors spend between three and four hours to cover the main areas comfortably, including the Hangar Deck, Flight Deck, Space Shuttle Pavilion, and submarine Growler. If you plan to add a 4D film, a flight simulator experience, or the separately booked Concorde tour, allow closer to five hours. The museum opens at 10:00 and last entry is at 16:00, so an early arrival gives the most flexibility.
Most of the Intrepid Museum is wheelchair accessible thanks to the ship's status as a National Historic Landmark, including the Flight Deck, Hangar Deck, Mess Deck, and all restrooms and dining areas. Areas that are not wheelchair accessible include the fo'c'sle, the Combat Information Center, the submarine Growler, and the Concorde. The museum does not have wheelchairs available for public loan but lightweight stools can be borrowed from the Information Desk.
Wear comfortable walking shoes as the visit involves covering four full decks of an aircraft carrier, which means considerable walking, uneven surfaces, and some areas with limited headroom. Pack a light jacket as the Flight Deck is fully exposed to the weather and can be cold or windy even on mild days. Bring valid photo ID matching your ticket name as it is required for entry. Selfie sticks, tripods, and large luggage are not permitted inside the museum.
