USA New York Rockefeller Center Entry Tickets Overview

Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres in the heart of Midtown Manhattan between Fifth and Seventh Avenues and 48th and 51st Streets. Developed by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and constructed between 1930 and 1940, the complex was built entirely during the Great Depression using a workforce of up to 40,000 workers at its peak and stands as one of the greatest achievements in urban real estate development in American history. The 14 original Art Deco buildings were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 and the complex has been continuously expanded since, now comprising 19 interconnected buildings including 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the complex's central tower at 850 feet.

The complex is anchored by 30 Rockefeller Plaza, home to NBC Studios (from which The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live are broadcast) and the Top of the Rock Observation Deck on the 67th through 70th floors. The Top of the Rock experience begins in the newly reimagined Welcome Gallery with a 10-foot scale model of the entire Rockefeller Center campus, followed by a multimedia film on the complex's history and its visionary founder, then a thrilling 43-second elevator ride to the 67th floor. Three observation floors provide a combined 9,500 square feet of outdoor viewing space, the largest outdoor viewing area of any New York City observatory.

Beyond the observation deck, the Rockefeller Center campus includes: the famous Lower Plaza with the bronze Prometheus statue and gilded Rink at Rockefeller Center; Radio City Music Hall, the world's largest indoor theater; the Channel Gardens with seasonal floral displays; over 100 international flags lining the plaza; the NBC Experience Store; and dozens of dining and shopping options. The Beam Experience, available as an add-on, recreates the iconic 1932 Lunch atop a Skyscraper photograph by lifting visitors 12 feet above the 69th floor on an open beam with the city visible 1,000 feet below. SKYLIFT, presented by Visa, rotates visitors above the 70th floor observation deck for an even more elevated 360-degree perspective. Guided tours of the campus are available separately.

FAQs

1When is the best time to visit Top of the Rock?

Sunset visits offer the most dramatic experience as the Manhattan skyline transitions from golden afternoon light to the full illuminated night panorama. Sunset slots sell out fastest so booking well in advance is essential. Morning visits from 08:00 to 10:00 offer the clearest visibility and the fewest visitors. Late evening visits after 22:00 deliver the full illuminated city view with significantly shorter elevator waits. Weekday visits in spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) offer the best balance of weather and crowd levels.

2What can I see from the Top of the Rock?

From the Top of the Rock at 850 feet, the view encompasses Central Park directly to the north in an unobstructed panorama, the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building to the south, One World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, the Hudson River to the west, the East River and Queens to the east, the Statue of Liberty on a clear day, and on exceptional days distant views of Connecticut. Top of the Rock is the only major NYC observation deck where the Empire State Building is directly visible.

3What is SKYLIFT at Top of the Rock?

SKYLIFT, presented by Visa, is a revolving open-air platform that rises above the 70th floor observation deck, providing an elevated 360-degree panoramic perspective above the standard Top of the Rock viewing level. SKYLIFT operates during Top of the Rock hours and capacity is strictly limited; advance booking is strongly recommended as walk-up availability is not guaranteed.
