USA New York Top of the Rock Observation Deck Entry Tickets Overview
Top of the Rock is the observation deck experience at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Rockefeller Center, occupying the 67th through 70th floors at 850 feet above street level, at the summit of the iconic Art Deco tower that has defined the Midtown Manhattan skyline since its completion in 1933. The Top of the Rock visitor experience was restored and opened to the public in 2005 after decades of closure and has since become one of the most popular observation deck attractions in New York City, distinguished from its competitors by the view it delivers rather than the height it reaches.
The experience begins in the newly reimagined Welcome Gallery at street level, a space featuring a dramatic 10-foot architectural model of the entire Rockefeller Center campus and photo opportunities at iconic Rockefeller Center locations. From the Welcome Gallery, visitors enter the multisensory film experience that traces the history and vision of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and the 10-year Great Depression construction project that created one of the most ambitious urban developments in American history. The 43-second glass elevator ride then carries visitors to the 67th floor in a thrilling high-speed ascent.
The three observation levels at 67, 68, and 70 floors provide dramatically different perspectives. The 67th and 68th floors feature enclosed indoor galleries with floor-to-ceiling glass panels alongside outdoor terraces. The 70th floor open-air deck is the highest outdoor viewing area and the most photographed, with unobstructed views in all directions and the glass observation surfaces extending outward over the skyline. The 67th floor also houses the Weather Room Cafe and Bar serving locally-sourced fare including artisanal sandwiches, mezze plates, and cocktails in the most elevated dining setting in Rockefeller Center, open late until midnight.
Premium add-on experiences include The Beam (recreating the 1932 Lunch atop a Skyscraper photograph on an open steel beam 12 feet above the observation deck) and SKYLIFT presented by Visa (a revolving platform rising above the 70th floor for an elevated 360-degree perspective). Open 365 days a year from 08:00 to midnight with the last elevator ascending approximately 60 minutes before close.

FAQs
The Weather Room Cafe and Bar is located on the 67th floor of Top of the Rock and is open late until midnight, making it one of the most atmospheric late-evening dining venues in Midtown Manhattan. It serves locally-sourced fare including artisanal sandwiches, mezze plates, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages. Visitors can relax with a drink while taking in panoramic views of Central Park and the northward Manhattan skyline. No reservation is required; the Weather Room is open to all Top of the Rock ticket holders.
The 67th floor features indoor enclosed galleries with floor-to-ceiling glass panels and an outdoor terrace, plus the Weather Room Cafe and Bar. The 68th floor offers a further combination of indoor and outdoor viewing with crystal-clear glass panel extensions over the skyline. The 70th floor is the fully open-air topmost deck with unobstructed views in all directions and is the most photographed level. All three levels are included in the standard Top of the Rock admission ticket.
Yes. Children under 6 enter free with a paying adult. The Welcome Gallery's 10-foot Rockefeller Center model is engaging for children of all ages before the ascent. The 43-second elevator ride is a memorable experience for younger visitors. The outdoor decks are secured with glass panels and safety railings. The Beam requires minimum heights of 42 to 52 inches depending on whether an adult accompanies. During the holiday season the view of the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree directly below is one of the most magical family moments available in New York City.
Sunset visits deliver the most dramatic experience, allowing visitors to see the city in warm golden light and then the fully illuminated night panorama during a single visit. Sunset slots are the most popular and sell out fastest. Morning visits from 08:00 to 10:00 offer the clearest atmospheric visibility and shortest waits. Late evening visits after 22:00 provide the full illuminated city panorama with significantly shorter queues and a uniquely intimate atmosphere on the outdoor deck.
Top of the Rock is located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Rockefeller Center, Midtown Manhattan. The main entrance is on 50th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, marked by a red carpet. The most convenient subway connections are the B/D/F/M to 47th-50th Streets-Rockefeller Center, with direct underground access to the Rockefeller Center complex. The center is also a short walk from Times Square and major Midtown hotels.
Top of the Rock is the only major New York City observation deck that places the Empire State Building directly in your line of sight, as an unobstructed element of the Manhattan skyline panorama. Most other observatories either sit inside the Empire State Building itself or are positioned such that the building is behind or beside them. Top of the Rock's mid-Manhattan location also delivers the most balanced 360-degree view, with Central Park to the north, Lower Manhattan to the south, and both rivers equally visible.
SKYLIFT, presented by Visa, is a rotating open-air platform that rises above the standard 70th floor observation deck, providing an elevated 360-degree perspective above the main Top of the Rock viewing level. It is a separately ticketed add-on experience from the standard observation deck. Capacity is extremely limited so advance booking is essential. SKYLIFT operates during Top of the Rock hours and is particularly popular for late evening visits when the city lights are at their most spectacular.
Top of the Rock and the Empire State Building offer different and complementary perspectives. The Empire State Building at 1,050 feet is higher, more iconic historically, and offers more elevation, but the Empire State Building is not visible from its own deck. Top of the Rock at 850 feet is lower but delivers the Empire State Building as a centerpiece of the Manhattan skyline view. Top of the Rock has more outdoor space. The Empire State Building has deeper historical resonance and museum exhibits. Many visitors to New York choose to experience both.
