Norway Northern Lights Wonder Highlights

Drift across open Arctic water at night as green and violet light fills the sky above and mirrors perfectly in the still fjord below.
Begin in a sleek fjord capital and land 350 kilometres above the Arctic Circle, where the landscape, the light, and the sky change completely.
Ride the cable car above the city, then snowshoe through Arctic mountain terrain with Tromso, the fjord, and the open sky spread wide below.
Watch the Northern Lights appear overhead as guides track live solar data, putting the aurora directly above in real Arctic darkness.

Norway Northern Lights Wonder Overview

Norway is where nature operates at a scale that makes everything else feel small. In 6 days, this package moves you through two of the country's most compelling worlds: Oslo, the sleek Scandinavian capital on the edge of a fjord, and Tromso, a small Arctic city sitting 350 kilometres above the Arctic Circle where the Northern Lights appear with a frequency found almost nowhere else on earth.

You arrive in Oslo and spend your first night in a Deluxe hotel in the city. Oslo is compact and walkable, and the evening is yours to settle in at your own pace. The next morning, a flight takes you north to Tromso. The shift is immediate. Oslo is polished and urban. Tromso is raw, surrounded by mountains, open water, and a sky that changes every hour. You check in and the Arctic chapter begins.

Three nights in Tromso are built around three distinct experiences. The Aurora Hunt with Citizen Science takes you out into the dark landscape with guides who track real-time solar activity to find the best aurora conditions. The Northern Lights Chase by Boat puts you on open Arctic water, where the reflections double what you see above. The Fjellheisen Snowshoe Hike and Cable Car brings you up into the mountains with panoramic views of the city, the fjord, and the sky above them.

The final night brings you back to Oslo before your departure flight home. Five nights, two cities, three anchoring Arctic experiences, and the possibility of watching green and violet light move across a sky you will not forget. International flights from Delhi, all transfers, Deluxe accommodation, and daily breakfast are covered throughout.

Know Before You Go

Indian passport holders require a Schengen Tourist Visa to enter Norway. The visa fee is not included in the package. Applications should be submitted at least four to six weeks before departure. Our team provides full guidance on the application process.

Norway is part of the Schengen Area. A single Schengen Visa allows travel across all Schengen member states. Ensure the visa is applied for Norway as the primary destination.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. Aurora sightings depend on solar activity, cloud cover, and light pollution. Tromso between September and March offers the highest probability of clear aurora conditions.

Tromso temperatures in winter regularly fall between -5 and -15 degrees Celsius. Pack thermal base layers, a heavy insulated jacket, waterproof outer layer, thermal gloves, wool socks, and insulated waterproof boots. Cold hands and feet end aurora nights early.

Arrive at group activity meeting points at least 15 minutes before departure. Northern Lights tours operate on tight windows dictated by solar and weather conditions. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Norway is a cashless society in most settings. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Carry a small amount of Norwegian Krone (NOK) for incidentals in remote areas.

The midnight sun operates in summer; polar night operates in winter. During peak aurora season (October to February), Tromso experiences near-total darkness for extended periods. This is the condition that makes aurora chasing possible.

Travel insurance covering winter activities, medical evacuation, and trip cancellation is strongly recommended and is the responsibility of the traveller.

FAQs

1Are international flights included in this package?

Yes. This package includes international flights from Delhi to Oslo and from Tromso back to Delhi. The internal flight between Oslo and Tromso is also included. Travellers from other cities should enquire about add-on connecting flights from their home city to Delhi.

2Do Indians need a visa for Norway?

Yes. Indian passport holders require a Schengen Tourist Visa before entering Norway. Norway is part of the Schengen Area, and a valid Schengen Visa covers the full trip. Visa fees are not included in the package. Our team provides complete guidance on the application process. Apply at least four to six weeks before your travel date.

3Are the Northern Lights guaranteed on this tour?

No. The Northern Lights are a natural atmospheric phenomenon dependent on solar activity, clear skies, and darkness. They cannot be guaranteed. Tromso between September and March offers the highest statistical probability in the world for accessible aurora chasing. Multiple aurora activities across different nights maximise your chances significantly.

4Can this package be extended to include dog sledding or whale watching?

Yes. Poketix Travel can add optional experiences such as Husky Dog Sledding, Reindeer Sledding with the Sami people, whale watching safaris from Tromso, or a Polar Museum visit. Enquire at the time of booking to customise the itinerary.

5What is the best time to visit Norway for the Northern Lights?

September to March is the Northern Lights season. October to February offers the best combination of long polar nights and high aurora activity. Tromso sits in the auroral oval, giving it one of the highest aurora frequencies of any accessible city on earth. Clear skies and low light pollution are the key variables on any given night.

6Is Tromso safe for solo travellers and couples?

Norway consistently ranks among the safest countries in the world. Tromso is a small, well-lit city with excellent infrastructure and a strong tourism industry. Solo travellers and couples are extremely well catered for. All aurora activities run in small groups with professional guides.

7What meals are included?

Daily breakfast is included throughout the 6 days at both the Oslo and Tromso hotels. Lunch and dinner are not included and are the responsibility of the traveller. Tromso has a wide range of restaurants, from Norwegian seafood to international cuisine at various price points.

8What should I pack for a winter Norway trip?

Pack thermal base layers, a heavy insulated jacket, a waterproof outer shell, thermal gloves, wool socks, and insulated waterproof boots. Temperatures in Tromso in winter regularly fall between -5 and -15 degrees Celsius. Cold hands and feet end aurora nights far too early. Merino wool layers and hand warmers are strongly recommended.
