Iceland: Southern & Northern Delights Highlights
Iceland: Southern & Northern Delights Overview
Iceland sits where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart, and that geological drama defines every day of this trip. The south coast stretches along black volcanic sand beaches backed by jagged lava cliffs. Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss pour off glacier-fed escarpments with such force you feel the mist from a hundred metres away. The interior is not the Iceland of postcards; it is the Iceland of genuine wilderness, where the road narrows and the landscape turns lunar.
Reykjavik is your base for the first four nights. It is a compact, walkable capital with an outsized creative energy. The famous Hallgrimskirkja church rises above the rooftops like a basalt column. Cafes, galleries, and the old harbour sit within easy walking distance of each other. The city serves the itinerary well because the major touring circuits begin and end here, meaning no wasted travel.
From Reykjavik, a domestic flight connects you to Akureyri, Iceland's northern capital. The contrast is immediate. The north is quieter, cooler, and feels further removed from the tourist trail. Lake Myvatn sits in a landscape of pseudocraters and nesting waterbirds. Hverir churns with sulphur-yellow mud pools and roaring steam vents. The Diamond Circle ties all of this together in a single full-day circuit.
The Blue Lagoon is one of the few tourist attractions in the world that genuinely earns its reputation. The geothermal water runs at a consistent 38 to 39 degrees celsius, the milky blue colour comes from silica and algae suspended in the water, and the surrounding lava field creates an atmosphere that no purpose-built spa can replicate. It is included in this package as a dedicated day rather than a hurried add-on, giving enough time to use the facilities without rushing back.
Iceland: Southern & Northern Delights Itinerary
A cab meets you at Keflavik Airport and drives you to your deluxe hotel in Reykjavik. Check in, settle into your room, and rest. The city can wait.
Head out along the south coast on a shared touring coach. The route takes in Seljalandsfoss, where a path runs behind the waterfall itself, and Skogafoss, whose roaring 60-metre drop feeds a mist cloud you can see from the road. Reynisfjara black sand beach follows, with its striking basalt columns and crashing Atlantic waves. The day ends at the wreck of a US Navy DC-3 aircraft that crash-landed on Solheimasandur in 1973 and has rested on the black sand ever since. Transfer back to Reykjavik for the night.
The Golden Circle is Iceland's most celebrated touring circuit and today belongs entirely to it. Thingvellir National Park is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates visibly separate, forming a dramatic rift valley that also served as Iceland's original parliament site. Geysir sends a column of boiling water skyward every few minutes at the geothermal field that gave all geysers their name. Gullfoss crashes down two tiers into a canyon in a display of raw force that makes everything around it feel small. Transfer back to the hotel for an overnight stay in Reykjavik.
A coach takes you from Reykjavik to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, one of the most visited natural attractions in the world and one that consistently justifies the reputation. The water runs at 38 to 39 degrees celsius year-round, heated by the volcanic activity below. Silica and algae give it the distinctive milky blue colour. Take a sauna, try a silica mud mask, or simply float in the warm water surrounded by a lava field that stretches to the horizon. Explore the restaurant and facilities at your own pace before the coach brings you back to Reykjavik.
Check out of the Reykjavik hotel and a cab transfers you to Reykjavik Airport for a short domestic flight north to Akureyri, Iceland's northern capital. On arrival, a cab picks you up at Akureyri Airport and takes you to your deluxe hotel. Check in and spend the afternoon at leisure. St. Peter's Church and the Akureyri Art Museum are both within easy reach on foot if you want to explore the town.
A shared coach collects you from Akureyri Cruise Terminal for the Diamond Circle, the north's answer to the Golden Circle and arguably more dramatic. Godafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods, opens the circuit with a wide horseshoe cascade that Icelandic sagas say received the old Norse idols when Christianity arrived in the year 1000. Hverir follows, a geothermal field of steaming fumaroles and bubbling sulphur mud pots in vivid ochre and rust. Lake Myvatn sits in a crater-dotted landscape shaped by eruptions over thousands of years. The circuit continues to Jokulsargljufur, a glacier canyon carved by one of the largest floods in Earth's history, before a stop at a puffin nesting site on the Tjornes peninsula. Transfer back to the cruise terminal and on to the hotel for a final overnight stay.
Check out of the hotel. A cab transfers you to Akureyri Airport for your onward flight. Iceland stays with you.

No. Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and depend on solar activity and clear skies. Sightings cannot be guaranteed on any tour. The itinerary is built around Iceland's landscapes and experiences, which are outstanding regardless of aurora conditions.
Even in summer, Iceland is cold and wet by Indian standards. Pack a waterproof jacket and trousers, warm fleece or down mid-layers, sturdy waterproof boots, sunglasses, and a sun hat. Sunscreen is essential in summer due to the long daylight hours. Iceland's weather can change within the hour, so layers are more useful than a single heavy coat.
The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa near Reykjavik where naturally heated water rich in silica and minerals fills a large outdoor pool. The admission ticket included in this package covers entry to the lagoon. Extras such as towel rental, silica mud masks, drinks, and restaurant meals are at your own cost.
Iceland is one of the most expensive destinations in Europe. Budget a minimum of EUR 50 to EUR 80 per day per person for lunches, dinners, and incidentals. International and domestic airfare, visa charges, travel insurance, and personal shopping are additional. Consult your Poketix advisor for a realistic total-cost estimate before booking.

June to August is the most popular window for first-time visitors. Days are very long, most roads are accessible, and the weather is at its mildest. For Northern Lights, plan for October to March when nights are dark enough for aurora activity. This package runs year-round, but summer trips offer better sightseeing conditions.
The domestic flight is not included in the package price and must be booked separately. Your Poketix advisor will help you coordinate the correct flight times to align with the package transfers and check-in at Akureyri.
