Greece Island Escape: Mykonos & Santorini Highlights
Greece Island Escape: Mykonos & Santorini Overview
Mykonos is the kind of place that earns its reputation. The whitewashed buildings tumble down to a harbour lined with fishing boats, and the narrow lanes of the old town open without warning onto Little Venice, where the houses hang over the Aegean and every terrace catches the light differently. The Paraportiani Church, one of the most photographed structures in all of Greece, sits at the edge of the Castro neighbourhood. Ano Mera, inland and quieter, holds a working monastery that has stood since the sixteenth century.
Santorini operates on a different scale altogether. The island is the remnant of a volcanic caldera, and the towns of Fira and Oia cling to its rim hundreds of metres above the sea. The Akrotiri Archaeological Site, preserved under volcanic ash like a Greek Pompeii, gives a rare window into Minoan civilisation at its height. The south coast brings the island's geological character closer: black-sand Perissa Beach, the Mesa Vouno rock formation rising from the water, and the traditional village of Emporio.
The ferry crossing between the two islands on the third morning is part of the experience rather than an inconvenience. The Aegean opens up around you, and Santorini's cliffs emerge from the water as one of the most dramatic arrivals in Mediterranean travel. The domestic flight between Mykonos and Santorini is not included in this package and must be arranged separately if you prefer to fly.
Greece Island Escape: Mykonos & Santorini Itinerary
A cab picks you up from Mykonos International Airport and drives you to your accommodation for check-in. The rest of the day is free to settle in and let the island set its pace. Overnight in Mykonos.
A shared coach picks you up for a full-day city tour of Mykonos, beginning with a stroll through the old town's charming alleys toward Little Venice, where colourful houses perch over the water. Visit the iconic Paraportiani Church with its distinctive whitewashed architecture, then continue to the peaceful village of Ano Mera to explore its centuries-old monastery. The tour also takes in the beautiful beaches of Agios Ioannis and San Stefanos. A shared coach returns you to your hotel for overnight stay.
After breakfast and check-out, a cab picks you up and drives you to Mykonos Port, where you board a ferry across the Aegean to Santorini. On arrival at Santorini Port, a cab picks you up and drives you to your accommodation for check-in. The rest of the day is free to explore at your own pace. Overnight in Santorini.
A shared coach picks you up for a full-day tour of Santorini, beginning at the Akrotiri Archaeological Site, a remarkably preserved Minoan settlement buried under volcanic ash and often called the Pompeii of Greece. The tour continues to Emporio Village, the island's largest traditional settlement with narrow lanes and Cycladic architecture, then on to Perissa Beach with its dramatic black sand and the Mesa Vouno rock formation rising from the sea. The coach returns you to your hotel for overnight stay.
The day is entirely yours. Santorini rewards slow exploration: the caldera-edge path between Fira and Oia is one of the finest walks in Greece, the village of Pyrgos sits quietly inland with panoramic views, and the black-sand beach at Perissa is a short bus ride from most hotels. Head back whenever you are ready. Overnight in Santorini.
After breakfast and check-out, a cab picks you up and drives you to Santorini International Airport for your onward journey. This marks the end of your Greece escape.
