The Uttarakhand Explorer Highlights
The Uttarakhand Explorer Overview
Mussoorie has been drawing travellers to its ridge since the British first built summer houses above Dehradun in the early nineteenth century. The appeal has not changed much: the air is cooler, the views of the Doon Valley and the distant Shivalik ranges are wide open, and Mall Road still functions as the social spine of the town. Kempty Falls sits in a forested gorge below the main ridge, and Gun Hill, the second-highest point in Mussoorie, rewards the climb or the ropeway ride with some of the most expansive hill-country views in this part of Uttarakhand.
Dhanaulti is what Mussoorie was before the crowds found it. The drive from Mussoorie climbs through oak and rhododendron forest, and the town that appears at the end of it is quieter and slower. Eco Park here is a functioning forest reserve with walking trails and mountain views. Dhanaulti Adventure Park offers a set of outdoor activities for those who want to stay active. The Kaudia Forest is a birdwatcher's ground and a photographer's location in every season. The Surkanda Devi Temple, reached by a steep path from Kaddukhal, is one of the most significant Shakti temples in the Garhwal hills.
Rishikesh operates on a register that neither Mussoorie nor Dhanaulti can match. The Ganges here is still fast and green from its Himalayan source, and the ghats along the riverbank carry the weight of thousands of years of pilgrimage. Ram Jhula, the suspension bridge connecting the two banks, frames one of the most photographed views in North India. Parmarth Niketan hosts the Ganga Aarti every evening, a ritual of light and devotion that draws visitors regardless of faith. The Tehri Dam, an engineering landmark on the Bhagirathi River, makes for a compelling en-route stop on the way from Dhanaulti.
Throughout the five days, all transfers operate by private sedan, daily breakfast is included at every property, and inner line permits required for the route are covered. Entry fees to all sightseeing spots and activity charges are not included and are payable on the spot.
The Uttarakhand Explorer Itinerary
A cab picks you up from your Delhi pickup point and begins the drive toward the mountains. En route, stop in Dehradun to explore Robber's Cave, a natural cave formation where streams cut through narrow rock passages and hidden waterfalls emerge from the dark. Continue to Sahastradhara, where sulphur-rich spring water cascades over tiered limestone formations and the surrounding greenery makes for a peaceful break on a long drive. After both stops, the road climbs steadily to Mussoorie. On arrival, check in for overnight stay.
A cab picks you up for a half-day city tour of Mussoorie. Begin with Kempty Falls, set in a forested gorge below the ridge where the waterfall drops into a pool surrounded by pine and deodar trees. Continue to Gun Hill, the second-highest peak in Mussoorie with panoramic views of the Doon Valley and distant Himalayan ranges. Gun Hill is accessible by ropeway at an optional additional cost. Round off the morning with a stroll along Mall Road, lined with local vendors, cafes, and shops. A cab returns you to your hotel for overnight stay in Mussoorie. Note: Ropeway charges for Gun Hill and all entry fees are not included.
After checkout, a cab drives you through the pine forests above Mussoorie to Dhanaulti, quieter and higher than the hill station below. On arrival, embark on a tour of the area beginning with Eco Park, a forested reserve with walking trails and mountain views. Continue to Dhanaulti Adventure Park for a set of outdoor mountain activities. Visit the Surkanda Devi Temple, one of the most sacred Shakti shrines in Garhwal, perched at 2,757 metres on a ridge with commanding views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. End the sightseeing at Kaudia Forest, a peaceful woodland ideal for birdwatching and nature photography. Check in to your accommodation for overnight stay in Dhanaulti. Note: Entry fees to all sites and activity charges are not included.
After checkout, a cab drives you down from the Garhwal hills toward the Ganges valley, stopping en route at the Tehri Dam, a landmark of modern engineering built across the Bhagirathi River. Explore the dam site and take in the scale of the reservoir stretching back into the mountains. Water sports including jet skiing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are available at the reservoir at an optional additional cost. Continue the drive to Rishikesh, where a cab drops you at your accommodation for check-in. Overnight in Rishikesh. Note: All water sports at Tehri Dam are optional and at additional cost.
After checkout, a cab takes you on a half-day sightseeing tour of Rishikesh. Visit Ram Jhula, the iconic suspension bridge spanning the Ganges with temple spires on both banks and the fast green river below. Explore the Shivanand Ashram and continue to Parmarth Niketan, famous for its evening Ganga Aarti. Walk through Geeta Bhawan and down to Triveni Ghat, where the river holds the greatest concentration of spiritual life in the city. Note: In Rishikesh, your cab goes to Laxman Jhula parking. Travel to Triveni Ghat from the parking area is by local auto-rickshaw at a nominal additional charge not included in the package. After sightseeing, a cab drives you back to Delhi where the package ends.
